The prototype room
One room, fully built and signed off, before forty two are manufactured.
Amina Tarimo, 16 July 2026

On any volume contract, the cheapest week of the whole project is the one spent building a single room exactly as it will be delivered. Everything after it is either confirmation or correction.
What a prototype resolves
Drawings settle geometry. Rooms settle judgement: whether a headboard reads too tall against a window, whether the desk leaves enough chair clearance, whether a fabric looks different under the property's lighting than it did under ours. Those arguments are worth having once, in one room.
Who signs it
Operator, designer and procurement sign the same room, on the same day, in writing. Sign off is a document, not a conversation, because volume manufacture starts the morning after.
The arguments a prototype wins are the ones drawings always lose.
A prototype costs a fraction of a floor of rework. On live refurbishments it also becomes the training piece for installation crews, which is where schedules are usually won or lost.
